Despite already starting its season, the Andalusia girls’ tennis team hopes 2010 will be a success.

Last season, the girls team failed to make it to the Class 4A state tournament, which first-year girls coach Daniel Bulger said he doesn’t want to happen this year.

“I know last year they didn’t make it to the state tournament,” he said. “That was the first year since I’ve been at Andalusia High School. So, our goal is to be first or second in our section so that we can make it to the state tournament.”

Andalusia has 11 girls on its team, and they are one senior, five juniors, two sophomores and three freshmen.

The senior on the team is Tally Morrow; the juniors are Maggie Jones, Aubrey Boyington, Anna Bay McCord, Lauren Beasley and Kaitlynn Jeeter; the sophomores are Meredith Tillman and Susie Watson; and the freshmen are Jennifer Botta, Jasmine Botta and Jamie Till.

The Lady Bulldogs are in Class 4A Section 1 with Jackson, W.S. Neal, Opp and UMS-Wright.

And the team to beat this year?

“In 4A, UMS-Wright is the team to beat,” Bulger said.

Today, Andalusia will travel to Montgomery to play St. James.

“St. James is a very good school,” Bulger said. “We’ll get tested.”
