The top priority for the Andalusia Bulldogs golf team this season is to qualify for the Class 4A state tournament.

“Our goal is to make it to state,” first year golf coach Marshall Locke said. “Last year was the first time they didn’t qualify as a team. So, I want the whole team to qualify this year.”

Last season, former player Alex Short qualified for the state tournament in the individual category.

Locke said he believes he has the right amount of depth on the team this season.

“I have some really talented golfers,” he said. “They’ve been working hard. They’ve been out here (at the Andalusia Country Club) committed and doing as I ask.

“They’ve been practicing, and I encourage them to play on the weekends and try to play them in little tournaments in the summer time,” he said. “Golf is a sport you have to constantly play. Some of them take the time off. If you do that, it messes up your time on the whole game. It’s something you have to work at.”

Tyler Dooley, Josh Atkinson, John Starr, Stinson Thompson, Jordan Theus, Luke Martin, Mitchell Alexander, Ben Clark, Grayson Gantt, Jamie Doulin, Hunter Dendy and Conner Deyton make up the Andalusia Bulldogs golf team.

Andalusia is in Section 1 with Alabama Christian, Ashford, Brewbaker Tech, Montgomery Catholic, Clarke County, Elmore County, Holtville, Jackson, St. James, Thomasville and team foe, UMS-Wright.

As recently as two weeks ago, Andalusia competed in a tournament in Gulf Shores and finished 12th out of 16 teams.

Next Monday, Andalusia will travel to play Monroeville and Excel in Monroeville.

On March 15, the Bulldogs will host Straughn, Elba and Enterprise in match play.
