Police are searching for a couple who robbed the Florala Wachovia bank at 1:37 p.m. Thursday and left on foot.

Florala Chief Sonny Bedsole said a man – described as a white male in his late 20s to mid 30s wearing a blue toboggan, blue jeans, camouflage jacket and gold necklace – passed a handwritten note to a Wachovia teller, demanding the money.

His female accomplice is described as “slender, wearing blue jeans, a sun visor and dark colored shirt or sweater” and as having a “tattoo on her neck,” Bedsole said.

“The man passed a note, which implied that he had a weapon and demanded denominations (of money) in bills,” Bedsole said. “The two then exited the front of the bank and made off on foot down Lakeshore Boulevard.”

The amount of money taken was not released.

Bedsole said the note stated ‘this is a robbery’ and demanded that the clerk place all of her money on the counter.

His female accomplice is described as “slender, wearing blue jeans, a sun visor and dark colored shirt or sweater” and as having a “tattoo on her neck,” Bedsole said.

Bedsole said a tracking dog from the Covington County Sheriff’s office was called in; however, the dog “lost the trail” near the Florala State Park campground at Lake Jackson.

Video surveillance from inside the bank captured the incident, he said.

Bedsole said the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the robbery. An internal audit at Wachovia will reveal exactly how much money was taken during the robbery, he said.

The Lockhart, Opp and Andalusia police departments, the CCCSO Posse, the Drug Task Force, Alabama Probation and Parole and the Alabama Beverage Control Board all responded to the robbery.
