Despite managing to fit in only one varsity softball game this season, the Florala Lady Wildcats are “excited” about the opportunity to get back on the field this weekend at tournament at T.R. Miller in Brewton.

“We’re going over there with good expectations,” Florala coach Roger Hammonds said. “The girls are excited about it.”

The Lady Wildcats played their first varsity game on Feb. 18 against Andalusia, where they lost 15-0 in three innings.

“The team is looking forward to the tournament,” Hammonds said. “They are looking forward to paying ball. We truly believe we’re going to T.R. Miller to be able to compete with the teams over there.”

Florala will start at 4 p.m. today against T.R. Miller. At 7:45, the Lady Wildcats will play their second game of the day before concluding the tournament on Saturday.

Hammonds said despite the weather, practice has gone well.

“We’ll be glad when the cold weather goes,” he said. “Now, we’re learning a lot and just starting off the season with a lot of fundamentals. We’re actually eager to learn and the players are consuming everything I’ve given them.”
