Brantley tops Red Level in baseball Thursday

The Red Level Tigers baseball team came up just short Thursday night, losing to Brantley at home, 7-6.

“We played three good innings of baseball,” Red Level coach Tony Ingram said. “We weren’t ready and we played like it to start with.”

Brantley jumped out to a 5-0 lead and around the fourth inning, Ingram said the team turned around.

The Tigers scored two runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

“I’ve seen a lot of positive things,” Ingram said. “You’re never happy with the loss. We’ve got to take the good things we did and build on them. We were kind of on auto pilot and then all of a sudden, we were swinging at bad pitches.”

Ingram said one memorable moment in Thursday night’s game came when senior Nathan Johns was at bat.

“It was probably the best at bats with two outs,” he said. “It was a great at bat even though he struck out. We had a chance to win with our senior at the plate. I was proud of the way he battled.”

In the Fri., March 5 edition of the Andalusia Star-News, Ingram was incorrectly quoted in the article, “RLS anxious to play.” In the article, the quote, “Florala has got to be improved,” should have been “Florala has to be improved.”

The Star-News is happy to make the clarification.
