Lady Eagles rout McKenzie

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles forced the mercy rule on McKenzie Thursday night, winning 11-1 in five innings.

Thursday night’s win was the first area win for Pleasant Home.

“We played good and the pitchers pitched well,” Pleasant Home coach Jimmy Reeves said.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings with the combination of powerful hitting and excellent pitching.

Pleasant Home’s Emily Byrd earned the win on the mound pitching 3.0 innings, allowing zero hits, zero walks and striking out five.

In the first inning, Megan Cook got things started in the right direction for Pleasant Home, hitting an RBI single to score Kayla Woods, who got on base with a double.

Cook later came around home on a passed ball off McKenzie’s A.J. Sanford.

With two men out in the second inning, Pleasant Home scored three runs.

Woods got on base with a single and later scored on an RBI triple from Cook.

Cook then scored on an RBI single from Emily Byrd.

Kaitlin Brookshire capped the scoring drive for the Lady Eagles in the third inning on an RBI single to score Byrd.

Pleasant Home would add four more runs in the fourth inning, which Reeves said was the difference in the game.

“We scored two in the second we scored four in the third with two outs,” he said. “Overall, I was real pleased with (our players).”

In that inning, Woods, Cook, Brentin Fuller and Jordan McGee all scored on five hits and one walk.

McKenzie managed to score one run in the fourth on a passed ball.

The Lady Eagles sealed the win Thursday night in the fifth scoring two runs off RBI singles from Emily Byrd and Kaitlin Brookshire.

Fuller managed the save pitching 2.0 innings, allowing one run, one hit and striking out four.

Pleasant Home’s Emily Byrd was 4-for-4 with three singles, one double, four RBIs and two runs; Megan Cook was 3-for-3 with one single, one double, one triple, three RBIs and scored three runs; Kayla Woods was 3-for-4 with two singles, one double, one walk and four runs; Kaitlin Brookshire was 2-for-4 with two singles, two RBIs and one stolen base; Mary Schwartz was 1-for-3 with one single and one walk; Gina Davis was 1-for-3 with one single and one walk; Brentin Fuller was 2-for-3 with two singles and one run; and Jordan McGee was 1-for-3 with one double, one RBI and one run.

In junior varsity action, Pleasant Home defeated McKenzie, 17-2 in three innings.

The Lady Eagles scored seven runs in the first inning, four in the second and added six in the third.

McKenzie scored one in the second and third innings.

Pleasant Home will be on the road next Mon., March 8, to complete its regular season area series with McKenzie.
