Congressman Bobby Bright brought his regular “Congressman on your Corner” stop to Andalusia Monday, visiting employees and customers in businesses along East Three Notch Street.

He visited Andalusia after stops at the Greenville campus of LBWCC, where he spoke to government classes, and a lunch at Emily’s Café in Greenville. He was headed to Elba to squeeze one more visit into his day.

Monday was typical of the district schedules distributed by Bright’s staff each week, and followed a weekend in which he spoke to the Cotton Farmers Expo in Dothan; attended a Civil Rights Pilgrimage program in Montgomery, and served as grand marshal at the Rattler 250 South Alabama Speedway in Kinston.

What’s on the minds of 2nd District voters with whom he’s coming in contact these days?

“Jobs, mainly,” he said. “People want to talk about the economy and how we can put people back to work.”

But he also hears a lot about health care, he said. And the students in the government classes wanted to talk about bingo.

In a swing through CCB Community Bank yesterday, he talked about banking regulations that have been passed in the fallout of the economic crisis.

“I know it’s not banks like yours that created the problem,” Bright said, adding that he behavior of large banks making bad loans prompted the new rules.

When he crossed the street to Dairy Queen, he ordered their famous soft-serve ice cream. As he stepped into the dining room to enjoy the nostalgia, he found patrons willing to talk about another favorite subject: grandchildren.
