Dwight Mikel, director of leisure services for the City of Andalusia, said construction in the city’s industrial park and on the new industrial access road leading into it, has created safety issues for those attempting to fish there.

“We don’t know what the future holds for the lake,” Mikel said.

“We may have to look at a different way to access it.”

The City of Andalusia is overseeing the construction of a new 72,000 square foot facility for SaeHaeSung, an automotive supply company which expects to add 150 new jobs over the next year and a half.

“As the weather has gotten warmer, we’ve got folks starting to show up at the lake,” Mikel said.

“It’s too dangerous.”

Fortunately, he said, only one event had been booked at the pavilion there, and leisure services worked with the family to relocate the event.

Signs notifying the public the lake is closed should go up later this week, Mikel said.
