The second-ranked Pleasant Home Lady Eagles scored five runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning on their way to a 14-3 area defeat over Florala Tuesday night.

Pleasant Home’s Emily Byrd was 3-for-4; Mary Schwartz was 3-for-3; Brentin Fuller was 4-for-4; and Kat Dozier was 4-for-4.

“The bottom of our line up hit the ball real well, which is a good thing,” Pleasant Home coach Jimmy Reeves said. “We’re giving up runs too easily, and that’s something we’re going to have to work on.”

Byrd won the game for the Lady Eagles in pitching. She gave up two runs, had four strikeouts, walked four batters and gave up one hit.

Fuller got the save pitching the last two innings. She had five strikeouts and gave up one run.

Pleasant Home (4-0, 3-0 in Class 1A, Area 3) managed to add an additional three runs in the third inning and one run in the fifth.

Pleasant Home’s junior varsity team also won over Florala, 10-6.

The Lady Eagles will play in the annual Andalusia High School softball tournament on Saturday at the Andalusia Sports Complex.

They get started at 9:15 a.m. against the winner of the Red Level-Slocomb game.
