An Andalusia man was jailed Thursday on three counts of second-degree rape involving a child under 16.

Andalusia Police Department Lt. Barney Tyree said the child’s parents reported the crime to law enforcement earlier this month, alleging at least three sexual incidents occurred between their daughter and 25-year-old Christopher Barnes.

“There aren’t a lot of details that can’t be released about the case due to the age of the victim – which I can say is under 16 and female – and the nature of the crime,” Tyree said.

“I can say there were multiple incidents spanning over the last two months.”

Tyree said for one to be charged with second-degree rape, a person aged 16 or older engages in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex between the ages of 12 and 16, provided that the subject – in this case Barnes – is two years older than the victim.

It is a “Class B” felony, he said.

Barnes was booked into the Covington County Jail and held on a $60,000 bond.
