The Straughn Lady Tigers softball team will be busy once again as they hit the road to play in the 2010 Enterprise Classic, this weekend at the Enterprise Softball Complex.

The tournament, which begins tonight, will be played in pool play format, and each team is guaranteed to compete in at least three games with a four-game maximum.

Straughn coach Ray Wilson said the purpose of pool play tournaments is to give teams the opportunity to play more games.

“Games are what everybody wants,” he said.

Class 3A Straughn is in “Pool B” with Class 6A Smiths Station, Class 5A Rehobeth and Class 4A Opp.

In “Pool A,” Class 6A Enterprise joins Class 6A Foley, Class 3A Headland and Class 2A New Brockton.

Tonight, the Lady Tigers will play Rehobeth at 5 on Field No. 3 and Opp at 6:30 on Field No. 4.

On Saturday, Straughn will begin its day with Smiths Station at 10:30 a.m. on Field No. 4.

Andalusia and Opp’s junior varsity squads will be competing in the tournament as well.

Andalusia kicks off this afternoon against Enterprise at 4 on Field No. 2, and Opp plays Smiths Station at 4 on Field No. 1.

On Saturday, the varsity teams will move to play in a single elimination bracket format with the No. 1 seed from each pool playing the No. 4 seed from each pool.

The No. 2 and 3 seeds from each pool will play each other at 12:30 on Field Nos. 1 and 4.

The No. 1 seeds from each pool will play at 1:30 p.m. on Field Nos. 2 and 3.

All games will be played at the 75-minute time limit. No new inning will start after 70 minutes have elapsed and no game will end in a tie. The international tiebreaker rule will decide all pool games that are tied.
