Frank “Trippy” McGuire has qualified for re-election as district judge.

McGuire first took office as district judge of Covington County in January 1993.

He is co-founder and chairman of the board of Impact of Covington County, which provides guidance and support for troubled teens and their families and works to restore families.

Besides Impact, McGuire has instituted several other programs during his tenure as judge, including ordering community service, when appropriate, where juvenile offenders perform free work for an agency to give back to the community. He also established the early warning truancy prevention program in all three school systems in the county in an effort to combat truancy and other problems stemming from truancy.

He also is chairman of the Covington County Children’s Policy Council, which recently received a federal grant to establish programs encouraging young people to remain drug, alcohol and tobacco free. The Peer Helpers Program now in existence in all of the city and county high schools in Covington County came about as a direct result of this grant.

McGuire is active in state judicial organizations and has served as state president of both the Alabama District Judges Association and the Alabama Juvenile Judges Association. He currently serves as board chairman of the Alabama Partnership for Children, a very influential state organization, which works in partnership with public and private entities to promote effective parenting and child development during the critical years of birth to 5.

He also serves as a director of the Solon and Martha Dixon Foundation; a director of Mizell Memorial Hospital; and the Mizell Memorial Hospital Foundation. He is a past president of the Opp Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow and received the district governor’s service award for his many years as adviser to the Interact Club.

He is a frequent speaker at churches, civic clubs, senior citizens groups and at patriotic events. A history major in undergraduate school, he has a deep love and appreciation for America, its history and the values that make it great.

McGuire and his wife, Margaret, have been married for 30 years and have two married daughters. He is a member and deacon of the Opp Church of Christ, where he has taught the teen class and served as youth director.
