3 announce retirement from OCS

The Opp City School Board accepted retirement resignations from three within the school system at its Tuesday meeting.

Trade and industrial Education teacher Johnny Grimes will retire July 31 from his position at Opp High School.

Science teacher Jackie Prescott, who has been employed by OCS for the past 35 years, will retire June 1 from her position at Opp Middle School.

Cafeteria worker Margie Welch will retire from her position at OMS on June 1.

The board also approved an educational leave of absence for OHS English teacher Amy Blackstock for one year. Blackstock requested the leave earn her master’s degree in library science from the University of Alabama.

In other business, the board:

approved February financials, which included $76,545 in sales tax collections for the month of December.

heard from accountant Brian Free of Carr, Riggs and Ingram, who presented the 2009 audited financials, offering an unqualified opinion, which he has was the highest the accounting firm can give.

approved a low-bid for a new freezer for the OHS cafeteria to Moore-Warren for $31,275.
