MONTGOMERY(AP) — House Speaker Seth Hammett says the Alabama House will take up the state education budget on Tuesday, and he’s hopeful it will pass in one day.

Hammett said the budget recommended by the House Education Appropriations Committee would maintain teachers paid with state funds, and there doesn’t appear to be any controversy about it.

Hammett said he plans for the House to address the state’s other budget, the General Fund budget, a week later.

Senate budget committee Chairman Roger Bedford said the Senate may consider its own version of the General Fund budget next week, but that is still being determined. The Legislature has eight work days left to complete both state budgets.
