A Babbie man, who is a self-proclaimed “rabbit” and wanted by locally on drug charges, was apprehended after being tased Walton County, Fla., authorities Thursday.

Robert Jeffery Schofield, 23, was sought on a failure to appear charge stemming from a possession of a controlled substance arrest, prompting local judicial officials to sign a warrant for felony bond revocation.

Walton County deputies attempted to serve that warrant sometime around 9 p.m. at a townhouse in Santa Rosa Beach, Walton County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Mike Gurspan said Friday.

“Mr. Schofield told the deputy that he had been arrested in the past and was known to be a ‘rabbit,’” Gurspan said, speaking of the term as a person who runs from law enforcement. “As Schofield placed on a pair of tennis shoes but not a shirt, he suddenly bolted toward the front door of the residence – running out the doorway and then south on Lantana Court. With the deputy in hot pursuit on foot, (Schofield) jumped a 4-foot fence around a community pool area and then into a surrounding wooded area.”

Gurspan said the chase ultimately ended in a swampy area.

“The deputy ordered him several times to stop running or he’d use his taser,” Gurspan said. “At one point, the deputy had to use it. That’s when Schofield said, ‘I give up. Don’t shock me with that thing.’”

Schofield is currently being held in the Walton County, Fla., Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Covington County.
