The Pleasant Home Eagles finished 3-0 this weekend at the Florala Invitational baseball tournament at Stevenson Field in Florala.

Friday night, the Eagles (12-6) defeated Florala 15-5 on the first day of the round-robin tournament.

On Saturday, Pleasant Home beat Butler County Magnet School 15-5 and Kinston, 17-4.

However, Florala finished 2-1 for the tournament getting wins against Butler County and Kinston.

The Wildcats beat Butler County Saturday morning 9-2 and Kinston 11-2.

Pleasant Home coach Bradley Stephens said he felt like his team did well at the invitational.

“We started to hit the baseball really well,” he said. “A lot of the boys stepped up and really contributed.”

In Florala’s first game against Pleasant Home, John Bess earned the loss pitching three innings.

Zac Fleming scored two runs; Erik Vega was 1-for-1; Jordan Rowell scored one run; Bess scored one run; and Austin McNeil scored one run for the Wildcats.

Against Butler County Magnet School on Saturday, Florala’s Vega earned the win pitching five innings on two hits and had four strikeouts.

McNeil got the save on two innings work.

Fleming was 1-for-4 with one run; Vega was 1-for-2 with one run; Rowell was 1-for-2 with one run; Bess was 1-for-2 with one run; Jonathan Burleson was 2-for-3 with two runs; Josh Parker scored one run; and McNeil scored one run.

In Florala’s last game of the tournament against Kinston, winning pitcher Fleming pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits, two walks and had 10 strikeouts.

Vega was 3-for-4 with one home run; Brock Goodwin was 4-for-5; and Bess was 4-for-5.

“It was a very good weekend,” Florala coach Stan Gooden said. “We regrouped on Saturday and played better. Our pitchers struggled Friday night, and we let things get out of hand.

“Saturday was the total opposite,” he continued. “Pitchers threw strikes, and we swung the bats well. I am proud of the way we stayed focused in the game with Kinston. It is something to build off of going into the last two weeks of the season.”

In order to make the playoffs, Florala has to beat Kinston 2-out-of-3.

Florala hits the road today to play area opponent Geneva County.
