Police are searching for the person responsible for an early morning break-in at the Andalusia Huddle House.

Lt. Paul Dean of the Andalusia Police Department said the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m., Tuesday when an unknown black male threw a rock through the restaurant’s front door.

“What we know is that the restaurant closed Monday at midnight and sometime around 2:30 a.m. video surveillance tapes show a black male wearing dark clothing and a hoodie throw a medium size rock and with one shot, break in the front door.

“Interestingly, he then runs around the side of the building closest to the bypass. We think to wait and see if an alarm sounds or if the police show up,” he said.

“When no one arrives, the video shows the male enter the store and remove an undetermined amount of cash,” he said.

Dean said the male, who was wearing gloves, then exited the building and headed north on foot. Police were able to find the empty cashbox outside of an abandoned building adjacent to the Idle Hour.

“From the time he entered through the front door until he left was 11 minutes,” he said.

No other details surrounding the incident or the identity of the person responsible was available; however, Dean said the burglary were discovered by an employee between 3:30 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. when they arrived to open the restaurant for business Tuesday.

This is the third “smash and grab” in Andalusia in a little more than a month. At the end of February, Sander’s Fine Jewelry and Stokes Sporting Goods were each burglarized with a week of each other.

Authorities said none of the incidents are related and described them as “crimes of opportunity.”
