Beginning Thursday, area schools will hold kindergarten registration for the 2010-2011 school year.

Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2010 to be eligible for kindergarten.

Guardian Angel Christian Academy will hold its registration tomorrow from 1 to 5 p.m.

GACA’s Amber Ingram said parents should bring their child’s birth certificate and if they aren’t already enrolled in the school, they will need the child’s blue immunization card.

“We just have to have a birth certificate for confirmation purposes,” Ingram said. “This is to make sure that the child belongs to the parent.”

Ingram said the parents and future kindergarteners would have the opportunity to meet their teacher and some of the school’s administration.

“We usually give them some small gifts, too,” she said.

W.S.Harlan Elementary School will hold its registration Fri., April 2., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

School counselor Heather Bulger said parents are required to bring a birth certificate, Alabama immunization slip and Social Security Card.

“The child does need to be present,” she said. “We have a kindergarten pre-registration screener that each child is given. The kindergarten teachers are the ones that do the registration, so they will get to meet the teachers. They will also get to meet the nurse. She does a vision screening.”

Bulger said the registration will be in the auditorium.

Both Pleasant Home and Straughn schools will hold their registrations April 9, beginning at 8 a.m.

Parents must bring the child, immunization card, birth certificate and Social Security card.

Red Level School will hold its registration April 23 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and parents should be sure to bring the same materials as the other county schools.

In addition to kindergarten registration, Bright Beginnings Preschool, 602 Seegers Street, is now accepting applications for the 2010-11 school year.

Children must be 3 years old on or before Sept.1, 2010 to be eligible. Applications may be picked up at Bright Beginnings Preschool or the Andalusia Housing Authority Office.

In addition, Head Start is also taking applications for next school year. To register stop by the Head Start campus.
