Arrest-A-Friend is today

Looking for a good April’s Fool joke?

The city of Andalusia Police Department has one, if you’re willing to throw a friend in jail – all in good fun, of course.

Besides it’s for a worthy cause. Today is the second annual “Arrest-A-Friend” Relay for Life fundraiser. Beginning at 9 a.m., those “criminals” can be seen inside a jail cell on the Court Square.

Chief Wilbur Williams said last year’s event raised more than $13,000 for the Covington County Relay for Life event, and he hopes this year’s total is even better.

Williams said locals can call in a “warrant” on an unsuspecting friend and set a bond amount they want them held on. That “bond amount” will be donated to Relay for Life.

There is a $1 charge to sign a warrant and minimum bond is $25.

In conjunction with the event, the city’s Relay team is also sponsoring “Lunch on the Square.” Cost is $5 for one hamburger or two hotdogs, chips and a drink.

Homemade ice cream is available for $2 per cup.
