The fifth-ranked Straughn Lady Tigers earned their first area win over Luverne Tuesday night, winning 16-2 in six innings.
“We went through the first couple of innings and got one or two runs and then we broke it open in the fourth inning getting five runs,” Straughn coach Ray Wilson said. “We started hitting more that inning.”
Straughn’s Kaitlynn Wiggins struck out five batters, allowed two runs and three hits on six innings of work.
Stephanie Bracewell was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one triple; Tori Bracewell was 2-for-4 with one double, one triple and two RBIs.
Straughn (14-7-1, 1-0 in Class 3A, Area 3) will play in the Andalusia Spring Fling softball tournament Saturday at the Andalusia Sports Complex. Its first game is at 8 a.m. against Charles Henderson.
On Monday, the Lady Tigers will be holding a Relay for Life benefit game when they play against Florala in a doubleheader.
The games will start at 2 p.m. and students can buy tickets to the game.
“We just want folks to come out because it’s for a good cause,” Wilson said.
Proceeds from the game’s gate will go to Relay for Life.
