County awarded $22K for food, shelter

Covington County has been awarded more than $22,000 in federal funds under the emergency food and shelter national board program.

Elizabeth Seay, director of the Organized Community Action Program (OCAP), said the $22,089 award will be used to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county; however, local agencies and non-profits must apply.

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

be private, voluntary non-profits or units of government;

have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination;

have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and

if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.

The deadline for applications to be received is Fri., April 16, 2010.
