Rays, Yankees win

The 9-to-10-year-old and 11-to-12-year-old Cal Ripken baseball season kicked off Monday night at Johnson Park, where the Rays beat the Padres 16-2, and the Yankees-City beat the Cardinals 6-3.

9-to-10-year-olds

Rays 16, Padres 2

The Rays scored five runs in the second inning to gain the needed momentum to rout the Padres by 14 runs.

In addition, the Rays added nine runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth to force the mercy rule on runs.

Rays’ third baseman A. Taylor scored three runs; pitcher D. Reeves scored two runs; short stop E. Brady scored one run; catcher A. Warthen scored one run; first baseman N. Greathouse scored three runs; center fielder E. McCall scored two runs; second baseman M. Kelley scored two runs; and right fielder D. Boggan scored two runs.

Padres’ first baseman Mancil and short stop Cook scored one run each for their team.

11-to-12-year-olds

Yankees-City 6, Cardinals 3

Yankees-City’s third baseman Will Jones scored two runs; second baseman Bolton Davis scored one run; short stop Taylor Griffin scored one run; catcher Ridge Riley scored one run; and left fielder Allen Butler scored one run in the win.

Cardinals’ pitcher Sim Bowden, catcher Stewart and right fielder Fleming all scored one run each.
