Two people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck at the 53-mile marker of U.S. Hwy. 29 in Gantt around 9:30 Wednesday morning.

A 2002 Saturn driven by Rebecca Lawrence, 21, of Opp collided with a 1994 Ford driven by 70-year-old Jimmy Halsey.

Alabama State Trooper Tracy Morgan said Halsey was fully ejected from the vehicle and Lawrence was trapped.

“We had to use the Jaws of Life to get her out of the vehicle,” he said.

“She was life-flighted from Andalusia Regional Hospital to Baptist South not long after she arrived at the hospital. She sustained critical head injuries.”

Morgan said the accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
