Virada Hornsby Brand, age 79, of Andalusia, died Thurs., April 15, 2010, at a local residence.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, Sat., April 17, from the Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Funchess officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin C. Brand of Andalusia; son Randall Brand of Andalusia; daughter Carole Brand of Enterprise, Ala.; sister, Thelma Lauderdale of Andalusia; grandchildren, Ladetra Leroy (Kurt) of Valley, Ala., Gina Moreman (Brad) of Greenwood, Miss.; three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; and her special caregiver, Cindi Smith.
Mrs. Brand began as the first special reading teacher for Covington County schools. She helped organize the first reading program in three county elementary schools. After several years, she served as a first grade teacher at Straughn School and later retired in 1992.
