A Pleasant Home elementary school student and her mom both perished in an automobile accident while en route to the school Monday morning.

A spokesman for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department identified the victims as Lori Simmons and her daughter, Zoe, 6.

The spokesman said the vehicle hit a tree and then caught fire. Witnesses said even the tires were burned off of the vehicle.

The accident occurred off Bradley Road in the extreme eastern part of Escambia County, Ala.
