AHS tennis teams going to state tourney

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs tennis team earned a trip to the Class 4A state tournament in Montgomery after finishing second at the sectional tournament Monday at the Lurleen B. Wallace tennis courts.

UMS-Wright finished in first place with 63 points, followed by Andalusia with 34 points.

Opp came in third with 21 points and Jackson was fourth with eight points.

In singles, Andalusia’s Aubry Boyington defeated Jackson 6-1, 6-3, and lost to UMS-Wright 6-0, 6-0; Lauren Beasley defeated Jackson 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, and lost to UMS-Wright 6-1, 6-0; Anna Bay McCord defeated Jackson 6-4, 6-1, and lost to UMS-Wright 6-1, 6-0; Maggie Jones defeated Jackson 6-1, 6-3, and lost to UMS-Wright 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Andalusia’s Boyington and Meredith Tillman defeated Jackson 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), and lost to UMS-Wright 6-1, 6-0; Beasley and Jeter defeated Jackson 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), and lost to UMS-Wright 6-0, 6-1; McCord and Maggie Jones defeated Jackson 6-0, 6-2, and lost to UMS-Wright 6-0, 6-0.

The state tournament will be April 29-30 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

In addition, the boys tennis team also finished second at their section tournament Tuesday.
