The Andalusia Bulldogs tennis earned a ticket to the state tournament Wednesday, finishing second at the Class 4A section tournament at the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College tennis courts.

UMS-Wright finished first with 63 points; Andalusia finished with 30; Jackson finished with 12; Opp finished with 19, and W.S. Neal finished with two points.

“I’m very proud of them and it’s been a crazy week being stuck in Spain for three days,” Andalusia coach Perry Dillard said. Dillard was speaking of his recent experience due to the overseas volcano eruption that grounded flights in Europe.

“I just want to thank the parents and of the boys, coach (Daniel) Bulger and Allison Foshee — she came out of retirement for the tournament.

“They did a great job and saved the day,” he said.

Andalusia was unable to score any points in the No. 1 and 2 singles matches.
