Police have no new leads, suspects or information on a rash of recent crimes in Andalusia – including the case involving a small child used as “bait” to ambush and rob an Andalusia couple earlier this month.

Sgt. Ray Dixon, investigator with the Andalusia Police Department, said Thursday “nothing new” has surfaced in the case.

“It’s frustrating, but it happens,” Dixon said. “We’ve followed every lead and every scrap of information but to no luck.”

On April 5, a man and a woman were traveling down Brewton Street toward Stanley Avenue when they came upon a small child between the age of 5 and 7 “just standing in the middle of the street,” Dixon said previously.

When the couple attempted to render aid, the man was pulled from the car and beaten by three black males.

A second set of perpetrators – a black male and a black female – allegedly pulled up in a “dark four-door sedan” in front of the couple’s parked Dodge pickup truck before leaving with the three men.

Dixon said the same could be said for the February burglaries of Sanders Fine Jewelry and Stokes Sporting Goods. In both instances thousands of dollars worth of merchandise were stolen from the retailers.
