Invite friends, family to come home

If you have friends or relatives with Andalusia ties, pick up a Homecoming 2010 postcard and mail it with a simple message: “Y’all come!”

This event, Andalusia’s effort toward Alabama’s Year of Hometowns and Small Towns, offers lots of entertainment for guests and locals alike. Built around the county’s annual Veterans Day parade and program, the four-day event also will include a musical revue of Andalusia’s history; an air show; a street dance; open houses in the schools; historic tours; the dedication of an addition to the Dream Park; church homecomings; a quilt show; an art show; and a gala.

For former and long-time residents, this will be a sentimental journey; for newcomers, this is a great opportunity to learn more about our community’s history. With the exception of the gala, all events will be free.

Tied to this event is a civic project, the expansion of the Dream Park. Fundraising for the expansion begins on May 14, and the build out is scheduled for October.

Plan now to invite your friends and family members and pencil in planting a few yellow pansies, the official flowers of Homecoming 2010.

As organizer Barbara Meredith Nichols keeps saying, “This is a memory maker.”

You don’t want to miss it.
