Andalusia’s Paige Caraway struck out 13 batters and allowed two hits on no runs in five innings Monday night to help lead her team to a 10-0 victory over Greenville on senior night at the Andalusia Sports Complex.

Caraway also was 3-for-3 behind the plate with two doubles, one triple, one run and four RBIs.

“We hit the ball really well,” Andalusia coach Marcus Taylor said. “It seems like everybody is hitting the ball right now, and that’s a good thing.”

On Thursday, Andalusia will host the Class 4A, Area 3 tournament at the sports complex, starting at 1 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs (23-11) got on board in the first inning on a RBI from Caraway to score Emily Terry.

Andalusia then scored five runs in the second inning on an RBI from Jessica Park to score Megan Pugh; a 2 RBI from Caraway to score senior Kristen Finley and Terry; A.C. Riley scored on an error; and then Caraway scored on an RBI from Abbie Young.

Terry was 1-for-3 with one single and one run; Riley was 1-for-3 with one single and two runs; Young was 1-for-3 with one RBI; Pugh was 1-for-3 with one single, two runs and one RBI; Park was 1-for-3 with one single, one RBI and one run; and Finley was 0-for-2 with one run.

“For the most part, we were able to get our bunts down and move people over when we needed to,” Taylor said about his team’s small ball play. “Putting people in scoring position has been a problem for us this year. Right now, we’re doing a pretty good job of doing that with stringing those hits together.”

Taylor added that “closing” games throughout the season has been an Achilles’ heel for the team, but not in the last two games.

“Closing out teams had been a problem for us this year,” he said. “Other than Hillcrest-Evergreen, we ended games in five innings.

“Then, in the last two, we ended in five innings against Clarke County and Greenville. I think that just shows that we’re gearing up for this area tournament and that we’re ready to play.”

Later in the third inning, the Lady Bulldogs added two runs on passed balls that scored Pugh and Park.

Andalusia ended the game with two runs in the fourth on an RBI from Caraway to score Riley, and an RBI from Pugh to score Caraway.
