Red Level calling natives home

When the siren rings in Red Level July 3, just think of it as the dinner bell calling you to the town’s “Great Red Level Homecoming 2010.”
Both vendors and volunteers are needed to make the day a reality, residents of Red Level, council members and Mayor Mike Purnell said as they gathered Tuesday night to discuss plans for the celebration.
“Tenative plans, which all call for volunteers, include a pancake-sausage breakfast, followed by a dedication of the new plaque/marker given to the town by the governor for the ‘Great Small Town Homecoming 2010,’” Purnell said.
The recently restored fire siren will kick off the day’s festivities in the Crystal Springs picnic park, where there will be singing and vendors set up at around 10 a.m.
In addition, a barbecue pork sandwich lunch will be served.
Plans are also in the works to include an antique car show, karaoke contest and music entertainment by local groups and a fireworks display at the end of the night.
Purnell said more details will evolve after the town meets again on May 17 at 6 p.m. in the FEMA building.
For more information concerning booths and contests, call Town Clerk Tonya Cook at 469-5351, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or contact any council member.
