Now that the newest Habitat for Humanity home is finished and the family has the keys, organizers are preparing to raise money so the next family can have a place to call “home.”
Organizers are sending out a call to action to local churches and all members of the community.
Habitat organizers are making plans for its third build, set for this fall, Covington County Habitat for Humanity President Dale “Flip” Pancake said.
Pancake said there is a little money left over from the previous two homes, but more is needed to fund the next house.
To help meet that need, the First United Methodist Church organized the Ten Dollar Club, led by pastor Tim Trent.
Pancake said the Ten Dollar Club gives people the opportunity to share in the wonderful program that is Habitat for Humanity.
“Last year, FUMC gave nearly half of the cost of the Marshalls’ home, which is a little more than $50,000,” he said.
Trent is now urging nine other churches other than his to take part in what he called the club that asks members to pledge $10 a month for 12 months.
This is the church’s second campaign, and Trent said thus far he has about 66 pledges.
“If we could get nine other churches to do the same thing, we could get the $60,000 for a house,” he said.
Last year, the church had nearly 120 pledges, Trent said.
Anyone is welcomed to pledge.
Trent said those interested in pledging are welcome to come by the church and fill out the pledge form, or he said he’d be happy to deliver it.
