GULF SHORES — Pleasant Home scored nine runs in the fourth inning in a 14-2 rout over Fruitdale Friday night to advance to the third round of the winner’s bracket at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex.
The Lady Eagles beat Ariton in their first game of the day, taking advantage of the Purple Cats’ errors in the field to score four runs in the second inning.
“It was a good day,” Pleasant Home coach Jimmy Reeves said. “We hadn’t had many good days this year and that was a good day. I’m very thankful for a good day.”
Pleasant Home will play the winner of the Kinston-J.U. Blacksher game today at 11 a.m. on Field No. 6.

Pleasant Home 14, Fruitdale 2
Winning pitcher Jordan McGee allowed two runs and two hits in three innings.
The Lady Eagles scored four runs in the first innings on a 3 RBI from Kat Dozier, and Kaitlin Brookshire scored on an error.
Pleasant Home added one run in the third inning on two hits.
In this game, Reeves said the bats “came alive.”
“We got hot and it was good to see,” he said. “It was good to see those bats alive. I hope we can save some for (today).”
Kayla Woods and Caitlin Jernigan scored two runs; Brookshire, Mary Schwartz, Emily Byrd, Kristy Herman, Abigail Kelley and Dozier scored one run each; Robyn Weaver scored three runs.
Starting pitcher Gina Davis allowed one hit and struck out two in two innings.

Pleasant Home 5, Ariton 1
The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles jelled Friday afternoon and took advantage of the many errors that befell Ariton to advance in the first round of the winner’s bracket.
Woods made it home on a throwing error by Ariton catcher Emily Snyder in the top of the first inning.
In the top of the second, Ariton made two more errors, and allowed the Lady Eagles to maneuver four runs across the plate.
Dozier, Jernigan and Woods loaded the bases with consecutive bunt-singles to start off the top of the second inning.
On a 3-1 count, Byrd hit a three-run double — where the two errors occurred — and put her team up 4-0 at that point.
Byrd then scored on a double from Weaver to end the inning’s scoring drive.
Byrd struck out 13 batters, allowed one run on four hits in seven innings.
Ariton scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Colbie Reeder.

Byrd was 1-for-4 with one double and three RBIs; Woods was 2-for-3 with two singles and two runs; Brookshire was 1-for-4 with one single; Weaver was 2-for-4 with one single, one double and one RBI; Ashley Copeland was 1-for-4 with one single; Megan Cook was 1-for-4 with one double; Dozier was 1-for-3 with one single and one run; and Jernigan was 2-for-3 with two singles and one run.
