GULF SHORES — The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs ended their season at the Class 4A South Regional Softball Tournament Saturday, falling to St. James 5-0 in the second round of the elimination bracket.

St. James played good enough defense to force ground outs in the win.

“It was a lot like the Dallas County game — we didn’t hit the ball very well,” Lady Bulldogs’ coach Marcus Taylor said.

Andalusia only earned three hits the entire game against St. James — all singles.

“We had our chances and didn’t take advantage of them,” Taylor said. “I don’t know how many infield ground outs we had, but it was a lot.”

As a matter of fact, St. James’ Dakota Drummond struck out six batters in the game.

After the first two innings, Drummond only allowed three Andalusia batters to the plate each inning.

The Lady Bulldogs (26-15) and St. James remained scoreless until the fourth inning, when St. James scored four runs on five hits.

St. James’ Alex Wise scored on a single from Caroline Alter to give her team the first run of the game.

Then, Lauren Henry added a three-run triple to score Hannah Barnes, Allison McCabe and Alter.

Losing pitcher Paige Caraway allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out three.

McCabe scored St. James’ last run in the sixth inning on a double from Henry.

Taylor said the season overall was a “success” not because of his team’s record.

“You’ve got to look at it this way — it was a success,” he said. “Not because we won 26 games, but just because of the character of these kids, and their resiliency.

“I use that word over and over again,” he said. “These kids never quit, and that’s admirable.”
