Beginning Monday, Andalusia residents should expect to have to “reset their electronic gizmos,” as the city’s electric department will begin changing electric meters next week.
Mayor Earl Johnson announced at last night’s council meeting that the long-awaited upgrade to new meters is about to begin and should take two weeks. The new meters are part of a new system, which will allow water and electric meters to be electronically read.
The new system allows for real-time monitoring of systems, he said.
“It should take about a minute to change the meter,” Johnson said. “But of course, we have to turn the power off to do that. We wanted to announce that so people would know what had happened when their electronic gizmos are blinking.”
The council:
• Approved an ordinance for Andalusia’s annual participation in a tax-free back-to-school holiday the first weekend in August.
• Appointed Lyndon Jordan to the Andalusia Housing Authority.
• Announced openings on the city industrial board, recreation board and tourism and relocation committee.
• Announced a special meeting for 6 p.m. on Mon., May 24, regarding its 2010 industrial development bonds.
