Giants, Twins win in Cal Ripken action

In 11-to-12-year-old Cal Ripken action Friday night, the Giants defeated the Indians 7-6; the Twins beat the Yankees (City) 10-0; the Reds beat the Cardinals 5-4; and the Yankees (County) beat the Braves 9-4 at Johnson Park.

Giants 7, Indians 6

The Giants got off to a good start in the first inning scoring four go-ahead runs.

R. Adams scored on a double from P. Loyd; and then two batters later, G. Barton hit a three-run home run.

The Indians scored one run in the first inning, one run in the second inning, two in the third, and one each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Giants added one run each in the third, fifth and sixth innings to get the win.

Twins 10, Yankees (City) 0

M. Worley hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to help lead the Twins over the Yankees (City) 10-0 Friday night.

The Twins added five runs in the second inning on six hits and one walk.

In the second inning, Hawkins, Hammett, Cosby, Peeples and Rogers scored for the Twins.

G. Worley struck out 12 batters and allowed one hit in four innings to earn the win on the mound.

To seal the win, the Twins scored two runs in the third inning.

Hawkins scored two runs; Hammett scored one run; Cosby scored two runs; G. Worley scord one run; M. Worley scored one run; Peeples scored one run; Hudson scored one run; and Rogers scored one run for the Twins.

Reds 5, Cardinals 4

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, the Reds tied the game scoring two runs to help them gain some much-needed momentum to win the game Friday night.

In the fifth inning, the Reds scored the game-winning three runs when Lane Sirmon hit a three-run home run on a 2-1 count with two outs.

The Cardinals scored two runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead, and added one run each in the fifth and sixth innings.

D. Walker scored one run; R. Graham scored one run; Sirmon scored two runs; and G. O’Connor scored one run for the Reds.

Yankees (County) 9, Braves 4

D. George scored three runs and was 2-for-4 behind the plate to help lead the Yankees to the five-run win over the Braves Friday night.

In addition, J. Driver and S. Jones scored two runs each for the Yankees.

The Yankees struck out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and quickly added four runs in the third to take a monster lead.

The Braves scored one run each in the bottom of the first and third innings; and added two runs in the fourth in their loss.

In the fifth inning, the Yankees scored one run, and then added two in the sixth for the win.

T. Ballard and C. Channell scored one run each for the Yankees.
