Alabama Secretary of State Beth Chapman has certified Don Cotton as an independent candidate for Alabama House of Representatives District 92.

To be certified as an independent candidate, the Code of Alabama 1975 requires that a candidate must file a petition containing signatures of qualified electors that equal or exceed 3 percent of the total votes cast for the office of governor in the last general election for the district in which the candidate is running.

Cotton said, “We are pleased to have obtained almost twice as many names as were required. The groundswell of support has been encouraging and exciting.”

Cotton, 54, owns a turf business. He is a former member of the Andalusia City Council.
