For many locals the Memorial Day weekend means leaving town for some relaxation, but for one local business owner, it’s the beginning of his biggest season.

Thom Watson, owner of Sweet Home Alabama Campground on Point “A” Lake, said camping season is just beginning.

While, Watson said he had a great crowd during spring break, the summer is his peak season.

“We have 25 lots with hookups,” Watson said. “We have one space left as of (Wednesday afternoon).”

Watson said he expects to be sold out by Friday.

“We have many campers coming in on Thursday and Friday,” he said. “By Friday we should be full. We do have many places to pitch a tent.”

On Wednesday, there were about 10 campers already set up.

“Most of them have just parked their campers here and are working each day, but there are a couple already on vacation.”
