Dayle Lloyd Pifer, 57, was arrested after making multiple calls to his suicidal neighbor and informing him of law enforcement’s activities as IRT team members and other officers moved in position to respond to any threat.

“Basically, Mr. Pifer was calling and giving away tactical information on how we were responding to the incident,” Sheriff Dennis Meeks said. “Every time our guys outside would change position, he would call the house next door and tell what was going on outside.

“In doing so, he caused threat to the officers and private citizens that were at the scene,” he said. “He very well could have caused the situation to go on for longer than needed by giving away this information.”

Meeks said Pifer is charged with one count of obstructing governmental operations and one count of reckless endangerment. He was booked into the Covington County Jail and held under a $30,000 bond.

Meeks said the Pifer could have faced up to 20 counts of each charge – one for every person at the scene.
