Objects to be removed from cemeteries

Director of Leisure Services Dwight Mikel said city crews will begin removing decorations that don’t meet the city’s cemetery code from Memorial and Marshall cemeteries this week.

Plot owners are asked to remove old flowers and decorative items. Boxes, shells, toys, glassware, sprinkling cans and trellises are not allowed.

While the city will do its best to catalog the items, he said, he can’t guarantee the items will be returned if left for city crews to pick up.

The clean up is necessary so that contractors may begin work on planned cemetery improvements.
