The City of Andalusia conducted a pre-construction meeting Wednesday morning to launch the River Falls Street project, expected to begin in July.

Mayor Earl Johnson, other city and state officials, project engineer, the general contractor, sub-contractors and utility providers met to coordinate the almost $5 million project.

The general contractor and sub contractors will be staging equipment and supplies in the area during the next two to three weeks in anticipation of the project getting underway, according to a press release from the city.

Johnson said every effort will be made not to impede access for customers needing to do business on River Falls Street, but encouraged residents to use other routes when possible.

The project will encompass new storm drainage, water and sewer, curb and gutters, sidewalks, lighting and landscaping. It is being funded by the Alabama Department of Transportation and the City of Andalusia.
