The water is “blue,” and the word is strong at Blue Lake Methodist Camp as nearly 400 campers from three states attended summer camp this weekend.

Director Phyllis Murray said 380 people were “on-site” at the 300-acre facility that can now sleep more 500 people at one time and each three camp site has its own gymnasium, dining facility and various other meeting spaces.

“For nearly 60 years, Blue Lake has been a center for a variety of camps, conferences, retreats and events and has been the vessel in which a countless number of lives have been changed and transformed in a variety of ways,” Murray said.

Blue Lake is part of the ministry of the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, “yet our doors are open to all people,” Murray said.

Spots are still available for summer camps throughout July and August, with selections such as “The Great Adventure,” where students in completed grades 3-5 can explore both Blue Lake and God’s word while enjoying high energy games and challenges or “Girls Only” for girls only, of course, in completed grades 6-8.
