Presbyterians ‘laid back’ on Wednesdays

Andalusia’s First Presbyterian Church is offering a “laid-back” approach in its new Wednesday night contemporary service.

“Most churches, whether you’re in Andalusia or South Dakota, it gets tough during the summer,” FPC pastor Dale Sallans said. “People want to spend time with their families, and this offers a way for them to do that and go to a worship service. It’s primarily designed for people to have a worship service if they know they are going to be gone.”

Sallans said the contemporary service also offers a more “laid back” approach, while incorporating many of the elements of a traditional Presbyterian service.

Sallans said that each person in service has the opportunity to speak their prayer requests or shout praises.

Sallans said so far the average attendance has been about 14 people, ranging in age from 4 to 84

Services are at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday through the end of July.
