City BOE to get 1 new member

Andalusia residents returned two incumbents and elected one new member to the Andalusia Board of Education Tuesday.

David McCalman, a physician, will join the board in November as the board member for District 5. McCalman, who got 250 votes, received more votes than any other candidate in Tues-day’s race. His opponents, Teresa Ward and Mark Dooley, received 35 and 26 votes, respectively.

Voters returned current board chairman David Bryant and board member Joe Nix to the board.

Bryant, who represents District 3, received 43 votes to Bob Bush’s 33. Bryant, a licensed real estate appraiser, will begin his third term on the board in Novem-ber.

Nix, who represents District 1, received 135 votes to challenger Joe Armstrong’s 34. Nix is a 24-year employee of the Alabama Department of Transportation.
