Got a hankering for some delicious home cooked wares? Then, mark your calendar for the 21st annual Oleander Club’s Holiday Tasting Fair.

The event, which is held each November, will feature all types of delectable food for locals to enjoy, said Ethel Robertson, president emeritus.

Robertson said this year’s event will be held Nov. 21, from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Adult Activity Center.

The event serves as the club’s fundraiser for the club’s December senior citizen dinner when the club invites all adults 55 and up to eat and enjoy and inspirational program.

“We needed some funds to defray the costs of holding our senior citizen dinner,” she said. “It also helps cover the costs of the Andalusia basketball tournament hospitality room.”

In addition, the taste allows the club to fund four scholarships in the Andalusia and Covington County area.

Robertson said that each member of the club prepares three to four dishes and friends of the club also contribute dishes.

“The main course of the meal will include baked ham, smoked turkey, cornbread dressing, giblet gravy, a variety of vegetables, casseroles, salads, breads and desserts,” she said. “We’ll have different types of punch and hot teas, and cakes, pies and cookies.”

Robertson said the event will be set up with a head table that will display the meat, dressing and gravy. Additionally, there will be three to four tables of vegetables, casseroles and a table of different types of breads.

Robertson said when the group organized the “tasting” in 1989, it was designed to be a tasting, but has since turned into a lunch.

“We just want to please the public,” she said. “It gives us an opportunity to see people we don’t usually see.”

Robertson said she expects at least a crowd of 250 and the cost is $10. To purchase tickets, Call Golar Church at 222-7160 or other members or tickets may be purchased at the door.

The Oleander Club was organized in 1975 as and exercise group consisting of seven women, but has since grown to be a social club with 17 current members, who are active in the Andalusia community, including supporting the Dream Park, Hymnology, Junior Miss and the Andalusia Ballet.
