New magazine unveiled

Andalusia Newspapers, Inc., unveiled the first edition of its newest product, South Alabama Living, at a preview party for magazine advertisers at LAAC last night.

South Alabama Living, a glossy lifestyles magazine, is a new quarterly publication with a a focus on the people, places and events that make living in South Alabama special. The magazine will be distributed separately from the newspaper.

“We are very excited about our new magazine,” Michele Gerlach said. “This product gives a tool for capturing more of the social events of our area. We live in the midst of a rich arts community and are pleased to have a medium through which to share these stories in South Alabama.”

Based on the reactions last night, local residents are excited about the magazine.

“It is evident from the response to our first edition that this is a product our community will enjoy,” Gerlach said. “It’s also a product our community deserves, and it is an honor to produce it for South Alabama readers.”

In addition to contributions from Star-News staff members, the magazine includes stories written by Shanda Beste and Bob Brooks, and photographs from both Brooks and Robert Evers.

The magazine is free, and will be available throughout the community.

It is available beginning today from advertisers in the first edition, including (alphabetically) Andalusia Ballet, Andalusia Ford, Andalusia Manor, Andalusia Regional Hospital, Ansley Place, CCB Community Bank, City of Andalusia, Covington Casket, Covington Electric Coop, Covington Metals, David Darby, Harold’s, J.M. Jackson, LBW, Madi’s Place, Massey Automotive, Merle Norman, Oasis Spa and Salon, Robert Evers, Savannah Terrace, Sears, Southern Bone and Joint Specialists, Town and Country, Vicki Popwell and Walker Electric.

It also is available by mail, for a convenience fee of $16 annually for mailing.
