After a two-hour search Saturday, an Opp man was jailed after an alleged drunken domestic incident involving a gun and a caged deer.

Deputies, along with Opp Police Department officers, were called away from Saturday’s air show in resp-onse to a report of a dom-estic disturbance on Randall Road, just south of Opp.

Chief Deputy David Anderson said when law enforcement arrived, witnesses said 42-year-old Wiley L. Lowery was “intoxicated and had run off” into a wooded area behind the home.

“(Deputies) were also told (Lowery) had shot out a truck window and could still be armed,” said Anderson. “Deputies called out to him, in an attempt to make contact.”

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., Lowery surrendered to deputies without incident.

Lowery has been charged with one count of reckless endangerment and one count of possession of protected wildlife after deputies located a caged deer on the property.

Anderson said it is against Alabama law to keep any member of the Cervidae family, which includes deer, elk, moose, caribou, etc.

The case remains under investigation, and other charges against Lowery are pending, he said.

Lowery was booked into the Covington County Jail and held under a $4,000 bond.
