Opp girls coach Allison Gregory said Wednesday that her team is looking forward to what area play will bring this season in Class 3A, Area 2.

“We’re looking forward to playing in the new area,” Gregory said. “We don’t know a whole lot about our area, but Geneva has a great coach, and is a powerhouse. That’s going to be a tough game for us.

“Luverne and Pike County are well-coached teams, and it’s going to be exciting,” she said.

So far this season, the Lady Bobcats have already played two games this season in a tournament in Samson. The Lady Bobcats split, beating Straughn 42-36 and falling to Samson 69-67 in overtime.

Opp returns two starters this year to the team in senior Soyia Folmar and sophomore Nisha Stoudemire.

The Lady Bobcats’ team is comprised of one senior, three juniors, four sophomores and five freshmen.

When asked what her team’s goals are for this season, Gregory said she wants to be competitive in the area and make it to state.

“I think those are pretty realistic goals,” she said. “If we show up and work hard every day, then we’ll probably make those goals happen.”

The Lady Bobcats will begin their season on Friday night at home against in-county opponent Red Level.
