Things are likely to get a little “wild” at the Kiwanis Community Center this week, as area cooking teams compete for the trophy to be awarded to the best wild game dish in Covington County.

The annual Covington County AWF Wild Game Cook-off is set for 5:30 Thursday night, Dec. 2.

Cooks will compete in one of three divisions, including fish, fowl and game, with first, second and third place awards presented in each division. Cook teams will also compete for a “best overall” award, and winners can advance to the state wild game cook-off next spring.

Organizer Hunter Grimes said that in addition to the opportunity to sample creative wild game dishes, participants will enjoy live entertainment and a silent auction.

In the past few years, the event has drawn an average crowd of 200 to 250 people.

Tickets for the event are $40 per person/couple. The ticket price includes a one-year membership in the Alabama Wildlife Federation, a subscription to Alabama Wildlife magazine and free samples of all the wild game entries. There will be no charge for cook teams and children under the age of 15.
