Winn-Dixie customers over-charged

Some Winn-Dixie customers who used credit or debit cards during Wednesday’s pre-Thanksgiving rush were double-charged, a corporate spokesperson said.

Banks usually have a failsafe measure to protect against double charges, but it is not clear whether the malfunction bypassed those protective measures.

Robin Miller, spokeswoman for Winn-Dixie, said the problem was company-wide.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based chain has 485 stores across the Southeast, including Andalusia.

Because banks were closed for Thanksgiving, it was impossible to determine the number of customers charged twice, sources within Winn-Dixie said.

Winn-Dixie will correct any excessive charges and is committed to making it a no-hassle process for the customers, said Miller.
